Sunset in Maui
As I sit, the sun setting,
Watching the world turn,
The color leaves
Negative space.
Shadows of trees
fade to black.
I avoid the point
On the horizon.
As I watch, the edges blurring,
Bursting the final colors,
The sky converges
To a motion.
Strands of clouds
Crowd the glow.
I avoid the thought
Of her eyes.
As I think, the pallets flickering,
Waving the desperate goodbye,
The light flails
Going out.
Importance of things
Do not shift.
I avoid the emotion
From the other side.
She was not looking at me but past me.
